The Olympics of Hair: North American Trend Vision Awards

I am straight off of the plane from Los Angeles today, and couldn’t wait to share the news! I had the pleasure of attending an inspiring “hair-as-art” week on behalf of P&G and Wella Salon Professional. The North American Trend Vision Awards kicked the week off with a bang! This is an event that I am incredibly passionate about because it is not only a competition, but it is the foundation of the 2012 trend forecast for the entire world.

Each year, four trends are released that embody four very distinct women. Hair stylists from across North America were asked to recreate one of the four trends to reflect their own vision. Finalists vying for the Gold made their live model into a true piece of catwalking art, including hair color, cut, makeup, and wardrobe. Only two finalists from each country will continue on to Madrid, Spain in October to compete in the International Trend Vision Awards.

Stylists from around the U.S. and Canada prepared their models under the watchful eye of celebrity stylists and industry gurus. Nearly 2,000 professionals and fans attended the event on Sunday, July 29 in L.A. Live for a red carpet evening of sensational stage presentations from Sebastian Professional, Sassoon, and Dmitry Vinokurov of Russia. P&G Salon Professional brands Wella, Sebastian, Nioxin, and Clairol also shared their interpretation of the 2012 trends with live models in the form of modern art installations. One of the Wella presenters was our own Minneapolis colorist (Haus Salon) and my dear friend Mark DeBolt!

This season I am urging my clients to try the ready-to-wear inspired looks from Wella’s Trend Vision Collection. Trends are meant to lend ideas to your own creations, and even though the haute couture versions may draw more attention than many Minnesotans desire, everyone is still yearning to know: What’s hot this year? Visit me or a Wella Salon Professional near you for this fall’s brand new collection, Cool Presence!
