Don't Throw In the Towel

Don't Throw In the Towel

In case you haven't noticed, between this blog and the magazine, I happen to collect a lot of things. Maybe not even totally seriously, at first. But small collections grow. Or I buy one or two of something, and then I get to thinking they feel lonely and need more friends. Yep, sometimes I worry about inanimate objects' social situations.

Two Memorial Days ago, I was in Nisswa, having a nice weekend away with my husband, and we were window shopping. (OK, he was window shopping, I was buying.) Anyway, we passed the window of Zaiser's, and I had to back up. They had the most adorable tea towel hanging there, and I just HAD to have it. I was in a phase where I was collecting kitschy-cool Minnesota travel gear and memorabilia. This was perfect to add to my collection of plates and other ephemera. We went in. (I ended up spending a ton of time and money in there—what a great shop.) But that was the last tea towel, and I made the poor cashier take down the window so I could have it for my very own. (I probably get a little of this from my mom, who has what we in my family call "looker towels" and "user towels.")

Now I know more about the company, and I'm even more excited about owning a Vestiges towel. (As it turns out, I have a couple of them now, the state towel and the Twin Cities snow globe towel.) Vestiges loves nostalgia just about as much I seem to, and they wanted to bring back the tradition of stylish tea towels. They've partnered with students at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design to create the darling graphics on the towels, and they are washable and usable (I plan to frame mine and hang them in my dining room, though.).

I have seen them more locally at Bibelot, for those of you in the Twin Cities, plus they are available on their website. But I love that my tea towel has a fun travel memory attached to it, too.

What do you collect?
