Pop-Up Fad Gets Artsy

The past couple years have been all about being mobile: pop-up shops, food trucks, blow-out trailers. So it should come as no surprise that the trend toward instant everything has come to the art world. Ad Hoc Art markets itself as “a dynamic community arts hub, celebrating amazing local art and sharing it with the people to create a positive impact on the Twin Cities.” This isn’t a gallery in the traditional sense. Yes, it’s a collection and display of myriad works from multiple artists. Yes, it’s open to the public. But instead of being in a set brick-and-mortar space, this gallery pops up and tears down every two weeks throughout summer months. This Friday night, Ad Hoc is back for its fourth event of the summer. Per usual, there will be more than 50 local artists on hand to chat up, plus live music from Back Pocket Hymnal, frozen treats, films, and interactive exhibits. Oh, and did we mention it’s free? Gotta love summer.
