Find Out What Your Server Thinks About...You

Want to know what your server thinks about you? Look at your receipt.

Several restaurant receipts have gone viral—the ones in which restaurant employees identify customers with offensive descriptions, such as the Papa John's staffer who invoked a racial slur, and the Chilly D's employee who called one group "Fat Girls."

I'd never noticed a descriptor on a receipt until this week, when my S.O. picked up some takeout and came back having been dubbed: NICE HAIR.

The look was post-gym-shower-hair-stuffed-under-winter-hat, which he had removed to reveal some rather vertical locks. I would have described it as NICE, sincerely, but maybe that's just because I think everything about him is NICE.

I then realized that the only time anyone's ever said "NICE HAIR" to me, it's been, you know, when my tresses were teased into in a side ponytail for a 1980s party, or had just returned from a shampoo-free, week-long camping trip. It was our first experience with the receipt description phenom, and we weren't sure whether it was an insult or not.
