Jerome Fiber Artist Presentations

Fashion is art, and so is the fabric that makes it. Out of 40 textile artists in Minnesota, Janet Dixon, Heather MacKenzie, and Mary Pow were the three recipients of the 2018-19 Jerome Project grant, and now they’re ready to publicly present their work, which uses immersion dyeing, screen-printing, architectural context, encrypted stories, and more. The pieces will be part of an exhibit coming May 2019. Aug. 28 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. @ Textile Center, 3000 University Ave. SE, Minneapolis, 612-436-0464, textilecentermn.org

Sociable Summer: Market Fest III

Come to the third installment of Sociable Summer: Market Fest—all of the vendor spots were sold out, and it’s always nice to have an excuse to buy one of Sociable Cider Werks’ pints. Check out Fuller Designs‘ mix of geometric jewelry and art; Something Borrowed‘s Minnesota love that spans bandanas, apparel, baby apparel, and accessories; Wayfaring Goods, with its handmade leather journals and bags;  a wine charms workshop; and more. Sept. 8 from noon to 5 p.m. @ Sociable Cider Werks, 1500 Fillmore St. NE, Minneapolis, mplscraftmarket.com

Avant Garden

Get artsy with the Walker Art Center’s annual gala, with experiences that can include a cocktail reception, reserved dining, art experience auction, live entertainment by Har Mar Superstar, late night treats, and dancing. What’s not mentioned is the fantastic fashion inspiration you can get by just looking around at the attendees. Sept. 8 from 6 p.m. to midnight @ Walker Art Center, 725 Vineland Place, Minneapolis, 612-375-7600, walkerart.org

State Fair Fashion Shows

I know we mentioned this last week, but as a reminder, the State Fair has its own fashion shows. Check out the four 4-H Fashion Revue Shows for a local and youth-oriented Project Runway-style show, or go to the Fitness Fashion Show as part of the Great Yoga & Wellness Get-Together. 4-H Fashion Revue is Aug. 27, Aug. 29, Aug. 31, and Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m.; Fitness Fashion is Sept. 2 at noon @ Minnesota State Fairgrounds, 1265 Snelling Ave. N., St. Paul, 651-288-4400, mnstatefair.org

ICYMI

SOTA Clothing is officially open, so swing by St. Louis Park and say hello. While you’re out and about, add Parc’s North Loop pop up in the Washington Building onto your agenda—it closes at the end of August. Maker Days at the Linden Hills Farmers Market is still going strong Sept. 2 and 9. Be on the lookout for JB Hudson’s experience The Loupe at MartinPatrick 3, opening mid-September.
