Photo Shoot Fun

One of my favorite parts of the job is being on set for photo shoots. I love seeing the magic behind the scenes: the lighting, the just-so adjustments, and of course, the final product that shows our hard work at the end of the shoot.

I’m on set today getting ready for our January issue. I love January issues, even if I hate the dead-of-winter season itself. There’s something so pure and cleansing about resolutions and plans and the promise of a fresh start, isn’t there?

I always caution people that magazines are its own certain world: They’re fun and inspirational—and contain great tidbits and advice—but don’t get down if you feel like your life isn’t as perfectly orchestrated as a magazine page looks. Mine certainly isn’t, and I’m in the industry! I mean, I don’t use tacky removable glue to make every bottle on my vanity look just so. Do you? Didn’t think so. That’s OK. Your life isn’t a museum, and you should live it, not just look at it.

But then get lost in this January’s issue instead. I’m here at the shoot, and I promise there’s some good stuff coming!
