American Art

NorthernGrade the event—Kat and Mac McMillan’s (of Pierrepont Hicks) pop-up shop that showcases the most stylish American goods to hipsters, patriots, and stylish persons alike—just wrapped two weeks ago here in Minneapolis and has moved on to other lucky cities around the country, but we got lucky enough to have an encore.

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, which is just wrapping up a re-do of its museum shop, is expanding its idea of art for the holiday months, exhibiting some of the best locally-and American-made products just down the hall from the shop, and tonight’s the opening night.

The limited edition goods include offerings from the delightful Sanborn Canoe Co. (everyone I know who sees these painted paddles wants them immediately, whether they canoe or not), Ursa Major men’s skincare, Claire Vivier handbags, Field Notes notebooks and more will be available to view and for sale—and you won’t want to miss it.

Tonight’s a great time to visit, as it’s the MIA’s Third Thursday event. Admission is free and there will be some fun activities to help launch the exhibit, including doing some letterpress with Lunalux, plus there will be tunes from Silverback Colony and an Americana photobooth (I’m a sucker for photobooths!) Go check out how art meets craft.
