Making Over Mom: 10 Years Younger

The most exciting order of my job as a stylist (and people person) is the communication and interaction I get to have with people from around the world. No matter where women come from, their requests always boil down to the same idea.

After being asked, “How is your hair? Express to me what you love and what you hate about it.” most women grab the area of their hair that is giving them the most trouble, get frustrated, and quickly divert to the statement, “Please just make me look younger!”

The approach I am taking for these women in 2013 is different than those I employed in the past. Now more than ever the request to look younger can be met by adding softness, length or thickness with hair extensions. Not all women need to go longer, but if a color change or chic cut hasn’t done the trick, I look to my secret weapon.

There are many myths about hair extensions and even more brands from which to choose. It boils down to this: If a qualified technician using the highest quality of hair applies the extensions, the outcome is incredible. The ability to make a smooth transition from the client’s own hair to the extensions is most important. My latest makeover illustrates seamless blending for a shockingly natural outcome.

Eileen came to me for a dual experience of my makeover options, including “From the Shoulders Up” and “10 Years Younger.” She expressed how the stress of recent life changes and the hardship of being a mother of two, grandmother to one, and newbie to the dating scene has taken a toll on her appearance.

We agreed that she needed dimension added to her hair color, topped off with a shine gloss and more length to help her grow her hair. We finished off the look with a styling and makeup lesson, along with a big bag of cosmetics and tools for her new look.

What do you think? Can longer hair turn back the clock?
