Pinspiration!

March. It’s a month that stymies most people’s closets. Sometimes it’s a lion, sometimes it’s a lamb, sometimes it’s both in one day. Plus, we’ve been wearing our winter clothes for months now. I don’t know about you, but about this time of year, I stand in front of my closet for longer and longer periods of time in the morning, trying to figure out what to wear.

Here’s where Pinterest kicks in. (Let’s be friends!)

I spotted the photo, at right, a while back and pinned it, becuase I was pretty sure I had most of the ingredients already in my closet, but hadn’t worn them together. This morning, as I hemmed and hawed in front of my closet, I had the light-bulb moment. Ding! I pulled out all the pieces. I wish my sweater was a little bit lighter weight, but I do have a short-sleeve cashmere turtleneck I could bust out if temps get any warmer.

Here’s where I ended up:

In case you’re wondering where I got the ingredients (all over a season old, though—availability will be finding pieces that look similar)…

Black Banana Republic turtleneck sweater, Vintage City Classics necklace, citron wool J. Crew skirt, Xhilaration (Target) tights, black leather Banana Republic pumps. Hooray! New outfit!

If you’re looking to update your wardrobe on a budget, one place to check out in the next 72 hours is A. Michele at Selby & Snelling in St. Paul. I hate to report that Amy and Holly are closing up shop. I talked to them last Saturday, and some kind of style venture will happen after the shop gets closed, but Amy understandably wanted to finish A. Michele’s chapter before starting another. Additional markdowns have taken place on the remaining stock, and an additional 20 percent gets taken off each purchase. There were cute tops and jewelry when I visited Saturday. Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Go give them your well wishes—and help them unload their remaining inventory!
