On the Dot

Since I’m in the throes of furnishing and decorating my midcentury modern house, nothing excites me more right now than the temptation of a huge furniture sale. Like, hugely huge. Like, 50 to 70 percent off huge. Of course, it has to be a certain kind of furniture. A certain style. And you know me, I’m always trying to shop locally.

Well, if you’ve got the home-décor bug like I do, and you share a love of modern design, then you will want to know about this, because it’s the trifecta of good design, local talent, and affordable pricing. Blu Dot is having its cult-following, annual furniture sale in Rogers, this Saturday. You can expect long lines, but a big payoff: mostly assembled furniture—some one of a kind!—and deals on sofas, sleepers, dining tables, desks, and media storage. (I’ve been told some Dang Media Cabinet will be there.) There are some scratch-and-dent pieces, prototypes, and quality control pieces as well. (It’s the thrill of the hunt coupled with the idea that pretty much everything there will be good—just a matter of finding what works perfectly for you. Love that.)

You don’t even need to borrow a pickup truck, necessarily—they offer affordable home delivery services for the Twin Cities metro area, too. Here’s a handy map on how to get there.

Here’s the other thing. The sale starts at 9, but it really starts much earlier—meaning, get in line before the chaos starts. But at least there’s a reward for getting there early, birds—coffee and pastries!

June 9, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. 13098 George Weber Dr., Rogers.
