A Walk in the Parc

It always thrills me to no end when I see an independent retailer not only staying afloat but even thriving in less-than-ideal times. It’s not an impossible task, but it’s not easy, either.

Today, Parc Boutique in Northeast Minneapolis—which has been open since 2008—re-launches its brand: new logo, new design, new website. Most notably, Parc is now hosting e-commerce on the site—anyone, anywhere can participate in 0wner Thao Nguyen’s vision for casual-preppy-cool style. Shop the links of Mink Pink, Kenzie, October Sky, Olivaceous, and more. In-store you can often find local designs from Hackwith Design House, DeVintage, and even Minnetonka Moccasins.

So what’s the secret to her success? In my opinion, Nguyen perfectly mixes casual and dressier looks from both indie and national designers, offering pieces that are versatile (go from work to happy hour to date night or casual weekend stroll to baby shower to dinner with girlfriends), on-trend, and affordable. In fact, the mix has worked so well that it garnered a mention in Lucky Magazine. Gold collar necklaces that are all the rage retail for $18—frequently skirts and tops ring in under $50 or $70. Plus, if you shop in the store, she hosts Friday afternoon Sip & Shop events in the summer, where shoppers take 15 percent off their purchase while sipping some bubbly. (Now that’s my kind of happy hour!)

I know I’ve been shopping there more often—I think Parc just gets better and better—and I predict big things for her e-business, too.
