A New Form of Sun Protection

Published:

One of the most important facts about sun protection is that we need to reapply to ensure effectiveness. But how often we forget! Even the most diligent among us tend to fall off the wagon when it’s lunchtime and we are choosing an alfresco table. Really, who wants to slather on a layer of sunscreen over foundation?

A solution is at hand! Enter mineral powder foundation or sunscreen on the go!

These easy-to-use lightweight powders provide chemical-free broad-spectrum sun protection, with added benefits of absorbing oil and reducing shine (some are even bronzers). The best part is that many come in a convenient brush filled with the product.

Here are three of my favorites that have been around for some time time—as well as carry the Skin Cancer Foundation’s seal of approval.

Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder Broad Spectrum SPF 25, $20; Mini Refillable Buffing Brush, $7.
This see-through veil gives you a flawless finish while protecting your skin. Comes in two shades.

Priori CoffeeBerry Perfecting Minerals Perfecting Foundation SPF 25, $33.
This finely milled powder has the added antioxidant benefits of coffeeberry and comes in six color choices.

Sunforgettable Mineral Sunscreen Brush SPF 50, $60.
This high-SPF product comes packaged in a natural hair brush for convenience and portability. It’s water resistant and stays put even on the most humid days. Three colors to choose from.

Common Sense Warning
Regardless of how high the SPF of these powders are, it’s not safe to rely on them as your only source of protection. Paired with a moisturizer that has a sunscreen and a foundation will ensure the best results.

Now there’s really no excuse not to reapply!
