Grammy Glamour

Did you catch the Grammy’s last night? The award show that’s been known for spectacular displays of raunchy fashion faux-pas and wardrobe malfunctions decided to enforced a strict dress code this year. The “proper coverage” of “problematic areas” were outlined in an email that made the rounds on the ‘nets last week. While it was refreshing to see the most daring fashionistas opt for elegant over less-is-more, many of this year’s presenters and performers dawned ensembles that overtly dismissed the request for “no sheer or see-through” garments. In fact, sheer was the biggest trend to appear on the red carpet, worn by Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Kelly Rowland.

It’s safe to say the dress code allowed for a different kind of sex appeal this year—not less dramatic, necessarily, just more subtle. I thought the memo regarding the dress code was a tiny over the top, but admit that the garments were a suitable nod to more modest times. I did, however, miss the spectacle we’ve witnessed in years past. It felt a bit somber.

That being said, there were some fantastic fashion moments that happened last night. My favorites included Frank Ocean’s minimal navy teddy jacket by Dior Homme and Rihanna’s three old-school glam moments that included a spectacular sheer red Azzedine Alaia gown. I also loved Beyonce’s graphic jumpsuit by OSMAN by Osan Yousefzada, and the fact that no one but Adele could wear that Valentino number so flawlessly.

Excited for Oscar night in just a few weeks!
