When Kevin Kramp designs come down the runway, they are unmistakable. Big, looped avant-garde arrangements of knits that, whether you love them or are confounded by them, you’re watching them. I think Kramp always makes for a visually interesting show (I’ve reviewed him here). . . I think his designs as museum-worthy (and apparently so do other people.) And we’re seeing more daily-wear iterations even here in the Midwest; he designed a line of scarves for Roe Wolfe in Mendota Heights (read my shops profile and their MNMO Twitterview). Not to mention the proliferation of outsized infinity scarves and other knitted products. It’s perfect for our climate, yet Kramp has always gotten more love abroad.
Well, here’s his latest: He’s making his debut in New York next week at the White New York show, where he’ll be showcasing a collection inspired by “undulating plant forms, translucent layers, diamond caves by night, and the crash of the organic with the natural.” His outsized designs will be shown alongside more “discreet” knits and “sophisticated silhouettes,” with specialty stitches in a color palette of “black, gray and white, brown, eggplant, and streaks of bright color.”
Congratulations, Kevin! Seems like another big step in what’s sure to be a long, successful career.
