My daughter reminded me this morning that Christmas Eve is only one day away (it coincides with the last day of Hanukkah). Although I knew this was the case, I did suffer a small amount of panic—you see, I’ve been working out of town for the last two weeks, and even though I did have the majority of my main gifts taken care of, there are a few I hadn’t gotten around to.
The thought of wandering aimlessly around a mall to find something special for a friend or the perfect host/hostess gift is not super appealing to me.I despise large crowds, and at this point, most of the people are probably in the same last-minute predicament as I.
I much prefer a store with a small, thoughtfully curated assortment of gifts that I can choose from. I found just such an emporium at the Weisman Art Museum (WAM Shop), which is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow.
Here are a few things I have on my list:
Heavenly Honey from the U of M’s rooftop bees. And Honey Bon Bons by Mademoiselle Miel made with U of M honey. It doesn’t get more local than this.
These beautiful teacups were created by local artist Monica Rudquist, who works primarily in porcelain to create pieces that are unique as well as functional. I put these teacups together with Tea Forte’s Skin-Smart tea collection.Skin-smart tea works with your body’s chemistry to help protect and take care of skin from within. It’s a perfect combination of inner and outer beauty.
Celebrate your Minnesota pride with these digitally rendered iconic images in handmade frames created by Christy Johnson of Redshoes26.This Minnesota wall-mounted bottle opener is perfect for the beer lover in your life.
Need a more substantial gift? How about the historic Duluth Foot Soldier wool Scout pack? It’s a prcatical size for everyday use, and its classic styling can be as appreciated by the traditionalist as the hipster.
I believe in rewarding oneself for a job well done. After shopping for everyone else, I picked up this Tess and Tricia beaded antler necklace—maybe I should have bought both!
