Last Sunday, my friend Kate and I had lunch at Birdhouse Cafe, Stewart Woodman’s newest restaurant and compliment to Lyndale Avenue’s Heidi’s. Enjoying our respective egg dishes and artisan cocktails, we locked eyes on a woman carrying a wide leather tote as she exited the restaurant with a friend (and dog) in tow. It was the perfect size for the Sunday newspaper, a couple treats for the dog, a late-summer scarf, and hefty novel. We both agreed—this woman was doing it right. It may have been a slightly romantic moment in Kate’s and my budding new friendship. Later that day, Kate sent me the link to Spring Finn & Co. and here I am today, spreading the word with you.
Timeless is the best way to describe Spring Finn & Co.’s aesthetic. Founder Talin Spring infuses her European roots, love of leather, and collection of vintage tradesman bags into beautiful American-made accessories. Talin brought her eye and talent to Minnesota, where she uses local artisans in the production of all products. Reminiscent of both vintage doctors’ bags and Parisian farmers’ market satchels, I especially love how her totes are utilitarian enough for everyday use. Not only do they carry the classic tote in chocolate, I’m totally obsessed with the hand-painted leather market bags. I don’t think you could find an accessory so European, and yet so Minnesotan, anywhere else.
