I’m totally at that point in my pregnancy: Too big for my regular clothes (or most of them, anyway, especially my work clothes), too small for a lot of maternity. Plus, we’re in that shoulder season. It’s still 90 degress out, but soon summer clothing will feel ridiculous (even if it stays warm), and I’m refusing to buy summer maternity clothing when the majority of my big days will most surely be cold-weather ones.
I’ve stocked up at a few places around town (another post to come on this later) and gotten some lovely hand-me-downs from other friends—but again, too hot for heat-warning kinds of days. So here I am. But I kind of got lucky. Got a text from my eagle-eyed sister, who spotted some cute dresses at TJ Maxx the other day. I swung in last night—holy cats, if you need fall gear, they are loaded to the gills in there—and found a few dresses that I think will work perfectly! Hallelujah!
This one in particular is just awesome (upper right). It’s French Connection, got it more than half off, and much cheaper than most maternity clothing of this caliber. I bought it about three sizes bigger than my usual, and it still fits me now, with some room to stretch. By the time my bump gets too big, I’ll be wearing sweaters and leggings anyway. (I swore I’d never wear leggings again, but pregnancy is sure making a crow-eater out of me.) I think I can work this into late fall by adding a cardigan and some heels or booties. And it’s my favorite—stripes!
I also found a super cute Max Studio dress, but my dressing-room photo does it absolutely no justice. It’s smocked on top, with a deep V, and some detailing which might try to make a waist out of this rounding body. It’s got cute poofy sleeves, is knit for stretch, and I bought it a size too big. I think it will be cute worn plain now, with leggings or opaque colored tights and a scarf later. (I’ll post it when I have better lighting and an outfit to go with it.)
My other thought is that by the time I deliver this baby—the “guess date” is January 29—I’ll still need winter clothes for a while that are a little more forgiving. . . and these should work if all goes to my calculations. (I can hear you moms laughing at me saying that, it’s OK.)
