I Am Fabulous! + “Advanced Style” Event Recap

After seeing the 2014 documentary Advanced Style—inspired by a popular blog of the same name that showcases stylish women and men over the age of 60—local producer Sarah Edwards wanted to find a way to bring the film to the Twin Cities for a screening in a creative way. That evolved into I Am Fabulous!, a style and shopping event celebrating style at all ages hosted on Sunday morning at the Varsity Theater. In addition to a screening of the film, the event included pop-up shopping from local boutiques, online retailers, and designers (including June Resale, vintage clothing seller Moth Oddities, and Hardt Jewelry); giveaways from shops and salons; and a cross-generational fashion show, complete with brunch, mimosas, and delectable treats from Glam Doll Donuts.

But the highlight of the event had to be the fashion show, which included models from senior living community (and presenting sponsor) the Goodman Group. Decked out in fashions from Rewind Vintage, Arc’s Value Village, Everyday People, Scarborough Fair, and Roe Wolfe, they were clearly having the time of their lives. During our interview, Edwards said one of her goals with the event was for people to leave “buzzing with positive energy.” I’d say she succeeded with aplomb.
