Flip for Front Flip

Published:

Traveling is fun. Getting presents is fun. Receiving surprise presents and perks while touring and traveling? Spectacular!

The bearer of this good news is Front Flip, a free app for iPhones and Androids—because smart phones are becoming the end all and be all of on-the-go engagement. (Not that I'm complaining; technology is stunning.) Front Flip was named "Mobile App of the Year" at the Silicon Prairie Awards in August 2012, and essentially sends users digital scratch-offs to potentially win prizes at locations nearby.

Those living in or traveling to the Twin Cities should pay attention now because its relatively new to our market, and the first batch of people to download this app get a list of automatic "gifts"—which involve no effort of swinging by an establishment, just the sweep or two of a finger to unearth the prize. (It's just like using a coin to scratch off a paper version—but much cleaner!) When you're ready for more, access the "places to scan nearby" list. This designates where you can walk in the door and scan a menu or sign (wherever their QR code is located) to try to win, once per visit. From a desk in Minneapolis, my phone mentions 19 places within 3 miles, and exactly what I aim to win—like a free decorated Wuollet's sheet cake, or free drinks at The Pourhouse Minneapolis. Sounds good to me!

Kansas City-based Flip Front launched in 2011 with big national guns (think Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Famous Dave’s) but now it's become more localized, with plenty of non-chains entering the game (including our own publication—win free subscriptions or event tickets!). The company has expanded to 800+ locations, including Austin, Chicago, Columbia, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, and St. Louis. So you can play many places you go.

What's the upside for business participating? Your user demographics and information of course, plus the opportunity to push "gifts" your way down the road. But who dislikes more surprise gifts? Not this girl.

Scan. Scratch. Win. It's as easy as that.

Note: Time frames are key. When you "unwrap" a present, you'll have a set amount of days to redeem the gift. Wait to click "USE NOW" until you're ready to actually redeem and show your server or cashier the screen, because the offer then only stands for a certain amount of time, like 30 minutes.

Download Front Flip or your android. Or download Front Flip for your iPhone. Learn more at Frontflip.com
