Madison-Bound

Summer days are coming to a close, which means college football season is almost here. In light of the upcoming festivities bound to sweep every school in the Midwest, Rachel and John give us the scoop on how to approach the new culinary scene at one of our region’s most famous college towns: Madison.

Order brandy, whiskey, rum, or a classic cocktail at Old Sugar, where a tap room lets visitors watch their liquor as it’s distilled. Or try the distillery’s house-made honey liqueur.

The Old Fashioned offers hearty takes on Wisconsin staples–think: sauerkraut, sausage, rye bread, and bratwurst–with a few different artisanal cheese and meat platters. The new supper club inspired restaurant also offers mini donuts to-go for those in need of a quick breakfast come morning.

If you plan to make a weekend out of your visit, check out the new accommodations at Hotel Red, complete with modern furnishings and a prime location right next to the Badgers’ stadium.
