Valentine’s Weekend Ideas for those who are Single and Fabulous

You see this kind of post every year, suggestions to help you make the most out of a holiday that usually reminds you of how single you are. But not this post. This blog post is here to remind you that you live in one of the greatest places on earth, and there’s even more to do than usual this weekend! Instead of feeling down about your single status, you might just have a big case of FOMO (that’s fear of missing out).

Forever Young Dance Party at First Ave
Do you like music from the early 90s and 2000s? Of course you do—Spice Girls were the original #squadgoal, and every member of N’Sync feels like “the one that got away.” Going to this dance party/semi-formal at First Avenue on Friday, Feb. 12 is a no-brainer. (It takes the shame out of being single and celebrates it.) Maybe you “Don’t Want No Scrubs” or maybe you are just “Larger Than Life.” Whatever the reason you’re single, your worries will be irrelevant when you’re dancing, belting out old favorites with all your friends, and taking pics in the photo booth at the best venue in town. Tickets are $6 in advance; $8 at the door. Forever Young Dance

Valentine’s Day TC 5K
Speaking of taking the shame out of being single…why not make it easy for that special someone to pick you out of a crowd? By participating in the Valentine’s Day Twin Cities 5K, you can proudly showcase your relationship status on your race bib. It’s a win-win: burn off all the chocolate and wine from the night (or whole week) before, and potentially run into your new soulmate! Pun intended. The race is Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m., starting at the Lake Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis. Valentine’s Day TC 5K

Minnesota Power Yoga’s Partner Yoga
I’m all about active first dates, be it walking, tennis, or ice skating, you know, cliché, romantic activities. But if I had to be completely honest, my favorite form of physical exercise is yoga. And you know what they say: “Do what you love, and love will find you.” So it seems like Minnesota Power Yoga, located in Minneapolis, has created a golden opportunity for me. Show up to practice some partner yoga, and maybe someone who equally loves yoga will also attend! It could be the easiest blind date I’ll ever go on, all while getting that awkward first-touch moment out of the way just minutes after meeting. (In a mandatory, non-creepy kind of way.) If you love yoga, and are open to nontraditional romance, give this event some serious consideration. Minnesota Power Yoga’s Partner Yoga

Adele’s Heartbreak Valentine’s Drag Dinner
Since Adele is the only person in the world who really and truly understands my deepest thoughts, I’ll gladly attend any event that seeks to replicate even a fraction of her awe and grandeur. Honey—below Ginger Hop—will be transformed into a one-night-only all-about-Adele evening on Saturday, Feb. 13. There’s an optional dinner beforehand that includes a “Rolling in the Deep Shot,” or you can just come for the show, performed by B. Louise, which is bound to be heavy in tears and laughter. The prixe fix dinner is only $19; $10 cover (cash only); $15 unlimited champagne for 90 minutes during the show.  Adele’s Heartbreak Valentine’s Drag Dinner

Minnesota’s Red Dress Collection Special Runway Show
Who doesn’t have that one red dress they keep hidden in their closet for the right occasion? Here’s your chance to wear it while supporting the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women initiative to prevent heart disease and stroke. Watch an inspiring fashion show at Loews Hotel, Minneapolis, on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 7-11 p.m., featuring clothing from local designers. Watch the fashion show, listen to live music, and sip a martini or two. Relish in the lights and glamour of a Hollywood-like event. Minnesota’s Red Dress Collection Special Runway Show

The Secret Speakeasy in Uptown
For a fun night out, try to find the secret speakeasy in Uptown. Volstead’s Emporium—named after the 18th Amendment, also known as the Volstead Act (the act prohibiting the manufacture, sale and possession of alcohol in America during the Prohibition era)—doesn’t have a formal website, Facebook page, or published phone number, adding to the secrecy/allure. Rumor has it that it’s a divinely decorated prohibition style bar/restaurant, a nod to the 1920s speakeasy days, with a bouncer who lets people in after knocking (that is, if you can even find the back door with the glowing red light, in a deserted alley in the Lyn/Lake neighborhood). There’s live jazz music on select nights, secret doorways, classic cocktails, a limited food menu, and whiskey, beer, and wine flights. *Tip: Either arrive really early or really late—or you may have to wait in line. The ambiance is unique, and the [legal] cocktails are well worth the effort.
