A Midsommar Dream

Published:

OK Minnesota, we get it, you’re a cold northern state that pours everything from the sky except sunshine. I think it’s time to call that stubborn act a wrap and bring on some summer fun!

For anyone out there who is having as hard of a time as I am with the lack of sunshine, what better way is there to keep your chin up than with a celebration?

Tomorrow, the American Swedish Institute takes the day to mark the arrival and joy of summer with an outdoor festival inspired by Swedish and European traditions: Midsommar. From the raising of the Midsommar pole to the little frogs dance of Små Grodorna, it will be a day filled with Nordic customs. Other family-friendly activities include glass blowing demonstrations, flower head wreath making, a Nordic flea market, mini golf course, performances by local groups, and plenty of festive foods.

Maybe if we take a day to celebrate summer, it will actually show up for good?

The Midsommar celebration is included with museum admission and can be purchased the day of the event ($7 adults, $6 ages 62 and older, $4 ages 6-18 and students, free for members).
