It’s right around this time of year that I start to feel a little lethargic. I don’t know if it’s the lack of sunlight or the cold or snow fatigue or what, but I find myself spending way too much time watching bad reality TV when I know I should be outside, breathing in that crisp, clean winter air, making the very most of winter.
The Winter Tracks Festival in Cook County does just that—makes the very most of winter from Feb. 1-10. Head to the Lutsen-Tofte, Grand Marais, Gunflint Trail, and Grand Portage areas of the North Shore for alpine skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, snow sculptures, snowmobiling, horse-drawn sleigh rides, luminary-lit cross-country skiing, outdoor painting competitions, live music, bonfires, and s’mores during this fun family-friendly event.
Your weekend will be packed with as many (or as few) guided activities as your little heart desires—a family sliding party, a skijoring lesson, a wolf-howling night hike, perhaps? Or maybe you’d rather try dogsledding, ice-skating, or a nighttime cross country ski adventure on a candle-lit trail? Live evening entertainment also is on the agenda.
The beauty of living in Minnesota is that we have four distinct seasons and many ways to enjoy the great outdoors, whether the forecast calls for 10 degree or 80 degree days.
