First Look: Lora Hotel Opens in Stillwater

Stillwater gets an update with a boutique hotel offering river and downtown views

The exhausting traffic congestion has finally been cleared from the streets of Stillwater. The opening of the St. Croix River Bridge last August eliminated the traffic jams that plagued Main Street in downtown Stillwater for years. But with all the exciting new developments happening in this quaint little town, I suspect traffic will likely increase again—though at a much more manageable rate.

I was recently invited to preview the soon-to-be-opened Lora Hotel. This stunning 40-room boutique hotel has been built into the historic bluffs, originally the site of the Joseph Wolf Brewery. Views are stunning and quaint, with the windows providing a glimpse of downtown Main Street and the St. Croix River. Longtime Twincy folk will remember the location as the former home of Vittorio’s Italian Restaurant.

The project started in October 2016 by chief manager Corey Burstad, of Elevage Development Group (EDG). EDG owns and operates several restaurants throughout the Twin Cities along with residential and hotel development projects. Today, EDG has projects under construction or nearing completion totaling $50 million.

The Lora is putting its environmental money where its mouth is by launching a Green for Green program, which offers a $5-per-day honor bar credit when guests stay more than two nights and opt out of housekeeping services. The hotel and its three different food and beverage concepts—Made, a contemporary coffee and juice bar; Feller, a full-service restaurant; and The Long Goodbye, a craft cocktail bar—will open June 18. Mark your calendars for a weekend getaway, and experience a new Stillwater.
