Outstanding in the Field Dinner Comes to Singing Hills Goat Dairy

While we’re all gazing through frosty windows, dreaming about spring, Outstanding in the Field—a popular cross-country, mobile, pop-up, on-farm dinner organization—is busy planning their big summer event in Minnesota. In fact, tickets just went on sale today for this event coming to Singing Hills Goat Dairy on July 30, 2013.

Outstanding in the Field travels the country, coast to coast, organizing on-farm dinners where guests have the opportunity to visit farms, meet farmers, and dine in a pastoral setting. From vineyards to orchards, from ranches to pastures, Outstanding in the Field has organized more than 70 on-farm dining events for the 2013 growing season, many of which sell out quickly.

Minnesota’s singular Outstanding in the Field event for 2013 will take place at the sweetheart of the Minnesota goat cheese scene, Singing Hills Goat Dairy. Lynne Reeck and Kate Wall operate Singing Hills Goat Dairy, a 25-acre farm in Nerstrand, where they raise Nubian, Alpine, and Saanan goats and craft fresh, artisan goat cheese. Reeck and Wall charm their customers at a popular farmers market stand at Mill City Farmers Market, and then seal the deal through social media, like their whimsical online goat-naming events on facebook. I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it again: the brine on their slabs of feta-style goat cheese gently coaxes the milky flavor from the cheese like no other. And their fresh curds are soft, slightly salty, and offer the squeak between your teeth that ardent fresh curd lovers crave.

Pairing up with Singing Hills will be guest chef Ian Gray of The Gray House, a Minneapolis gastropub in the former Risotto spot in Lyn-Lake. The Gray House is known for an adaptive menu that features nose-to-tail cooking, locally sourced ingredients, and local beer. Gray replaces Scott Pampuch, who was the featured chef for the past five Outstanding in the Field dinners in Minnesota.

Nearby Outstanding in the Field events for 2013 include an August 5th dinner at Pinehold Farm in Oak Creek, WI with Hinterland chef Dan Van Rite, and an August 4th dinner at Shooting Star Farm in Mineral Point, WI with chef Tory Miller of L’Etoile and Graze in Madison.

As I mentioned, tickets are on sale as of today, and cost $200 per person. The price includes a reception with wine and passed appetizers, four seated courses with wine pairings, gratuities, producer discussions, and a tour of the farm.
