DeRushaEats: Butcher and the Boar Winter Beer Garden

There are two Twin Cities restaurants that are tough to get into right now. I already told you how to get into The Bachelor Farmer back in August (Go to brunch! No reservations needed or taken!); now I’m going to tell you how to get into Butcher and the Boar.

Don’t go into Butcher and the Boar.

Stay outside.

footlongTheir outdoor beer garden will be a hotspot in the summer, for sure. But now it’s a slightly undiscovered secret. That might be because it’s outside, and it’s been below zero much of the week. But the brain wizards over there put up a tent and they’re pumping heat inside.

My wife and I took our two boys Friday at 5 p.m., and there was only one other table of people in there. The menu is very limited, and just about everything was under $9. Which also makes it the cheapest way to enjoy one of Rachel’s Restaurants of the Year.

The boys shared the footlong hot dog (I snuck a bite–they smoke it in house–it’s awesome). My wife and I had the sausage of the day (shown above), a “hot link” made with Indeed Brewing beer. For $9 it’s served on a bun with pickled vegetables and a bag of chips.

We also had the cheese plate ($12) and the red hot brussel sprouts ($5), which were delicious.

I’m always on the lookout for a place where I can grab a beer with my wife, and still bring the kids without making trouble for other people. The outdoor winter beer garden opens every day at 4 p.m. I’ll see you there.
