Sampling Street Eats

Calling all foodies, ethnic plate enthusiasts, appetite satisfiers or anyone simply looking to get their curbside grub on. On June 30, falafels, fish n’ chips, jambalaya, wood-fired pizza, beers, ciders, sliders, and many more meals on wheels will line Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street in Uptown Minneapolis for the second annual MN Food Truck Fair.

From 3-8 p.m. you can delight in food that is relatively cheap, delicious, and quick—and there’s no entrance fee to attend! Unlike fast food, these trucks serve crafted innovative dishes to make sure your taste buds are singing with satisfaction while jazz, blues, folk and R&B artists jam live.

Rusty Taco, AZ Canteen, Gastrotruck, Hola Arepa, Pimento Jamaican Grille, and World Street Kitchen are just a few of the 29 food trucks complimented by local craft beers and live Minnesota bands.

Of course you’ll want to dabble in a little bit of everything…which inevitably leads to consuming more delicious food than intended. So, from personal experience, I suggest the following:

  1. Eat a light breakfast—you’ve got to prepare your stomach for all of the scrumptious food it will be delighted with later. If you don’t eat anything at all you’re not giving your stomach a chance to stretch a bit to maximize your dabbling space.
  2. Go for a brisk walk or jog prior to attending to work up a bit of an appetite.
  3. Elastic. Stretchy pants are key, or for the ladies a sundress is perfect. You don’t want to let an uncomfortable waistband be a goalie to your taste buds.
  4. Bring some containers to store the leftovers—microwaves are a beautiful thing.

The food truck fair is an outdoor event filled with a few of our favorite things: sunshine, music, food and beer. What’s a better summer Sunday than that?
